RESEARCH ASSISTANT

Key Responsibilities

We are seeking a Research Assistant to support a historian working on a research project on gender and society in African history. The role involves conducting archival and library research, assisting with interview-based data collection, and organizing historical materials. The Research Assistant will also help analyze data that has already been collected, contribute to interpreting key findings, and support the preparation of academic writing and presentations. This is a valuable opportunity to be part of an active research project and work closely with a professional historian, as well as librarians and archivists.

Key Responsibilities

*Assist in the processing, transcribing, and organizing historical records

*Conduct targeted research in libraries and archives, including travel to specified locations for document retrieval and review

*Participate in interview-based data collection and ensure secure handling of sensitive materials

*Maintain organized research logs, bibliographies and digital folders for tracking of sources and findings

Essential Qualification and Skills

*Bachelor's degree in History (Required)

*Completion of NYSC (Required

*Ability to travel archives, libraries and

interviews sites when needed

*Familiarity or interest in themes such as gender, law , religion

and Africa social history

Key Responsibilities

*Coordinate, manage, and monitor archaeology and heritage projects from initiation through completion.

*Liaise with the local communities, heritage and museum professionals, and other collaborators and partners

*Ensure alignment with cultural protocols, ethical guidelines, and heritage conservation best practices

*Organize field logistics including permits, travel, and equipment procurement
